Walk to Emmaus

The Walk to Emmaus is an experience of Christian spiritual renewal and formation that begins with a three-day short course in Christianity. It is an opportunity to meet Jesus Christ in a new way as God’s grace and love is revealed to you through other believers.

The Walk to Emmaus experience begins with the prayerful discernment and invitation from a sponsor.  After one accepts this invitation they complete an application.  The Emmaus leaders prayerfully consider each applicant and in God’s time, the person is invited to attend a three-day experience of New Testament Christianity as a lifestyle.

Following the three-day experience, participants are joined in small groups to support each other in their ongoing walk with Christ.  Walker United Methodist Church's reunion group meets monthly.

Media/Web Ministry

The purpose of the Media/Web Ministry here at Walker UMC is to carry the Gospel of Jesus Christ to our visually-driven, ever-changing world through the use of technology and media, and to equip other ministries of the church to use digital and electronic media as a worship and outreach tool.

This ministry publishes the Website, Facebook page, Worship Presentation, and provides the technical support required for our worship services. We use website dashboards and industry leading church presentation software to spread God’s message to our congregation and our community.

There are many opportunities for you to serve in Media ministry. WUMC staff are here to help you learn what you'll need to know and have fun in the process!  If you would like more information about our media ministry or want to volunteer as a team member, please fill out the contact form or email walkerumc@iowatelecom.net

Financial Peace University

Financial Peace University is a "biblically based curriculum that teaches people how to handle money God's ways."

This is a program that Dave Ramsey started.  He helps you understand where your money goes (or where you thought it went), how to get out of debt, and how to save NOW and for the future.  It is a very powerful program that can really change your circumstances!

The program is taught over 9 weeks, with each class being held once a week for approximately an hour and a half.  It is taught in a small group setting, and is geared to both couples and single people.  It is a very non-threatening, non-judgmental environment.  The program is very entertaining, informative and works as hard as you do.

Each week's lesson is specific and there is a reading assignment ahead of time.  During the class a video from Dave Ramsey explains the concepts and biblical application of the lesson, in a funny, non-threatening way.  After the video, small group(s) discuss the video and how it can be applied to our daily lives.  Any homework is assigned for the next week.

United Methodist Women

The Purpose of United Methodist Women

The Purpose is adopted by the General Conference of The United Methodist Church as the official mission statement of United Methodist Women.

United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

Out of the Purpose are four mission foci that relate to the mission initiatives and priorities of United Methodist Women.

  • To be a community of women
  • To know God
  • To develop a creative and supportive fellowship
  • To expand concepts of mission

 WALKER UNITED METHODIST WOMEN

All women of the congregation of the Walker United Methodist Church are invited to attend.

The meetings are monthly, September thru May on the third Thursday of a month, presently being held in members’ homes.

The local ministries of UMW are sponsoring a child at the Ebenezer Glen Orphanage in Haiti.

We purchase the small and large print, Upper Room booklets, for the congregations’ use.

We sponsor a bazaar at the time of the church supper to help support these projects.

Men's Group

Mission

Our mission is to support spiritual growth among Walker UMC men, helping men to mature as disciples as they encourage spiritual formation in others.

Goal

Our goal is to empower the ministry of Jesus Christ through men within the congregations of the Walker UMC.

Operation Christmas Child

Our youth groups and Sunday School will be packing 72 shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child again this year. We need your help to make this happen. We need shoe boxes and items to put in boxes for children, ages 2 to 4, 5 to 9, and 10 to 14.

GIFT SUGGESTIONS

TOYS! Include items that children will immediately embrace such as dolls, toy trucks, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yos, jump ropes, balls, toys that light up and make noise (with extra batteries), etc.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES:  Pens, pencils and sharpeners, crayons or marker, stamps and ink pad set, writing pads or paper, solar calculators, coloring and picture books, etc.

HYGIENE ITEMS: Toothbrush, toothpaste, mild-bar soap (in a plastic bag), comb, washcloth, etc.

OTHER: T-shirts, socks, ball caps, sunglasses, hair clips, toy jewelry, watches, flashlights (with extra batteries).

These items can be placed in a box located in the church entry.

We will pack boxes by November 8th. On November 15th, the boxes will be blessed in our worship service, and we will be receiving an offering for the postage. It costs $7.00 for each box we send.

Every shoebox offers an opportunity to share the “Good News of Jesus Christ” with a hurting child.

We thank you for everything you’ve done to help make this mission successful. If you have any questions, please contact Miranda Fuessley.
